MATLOCK ROTARY CLUB CHARITY GOLF DAY

RAISES £2000 FOR ‘SSAFA-Forces Help’

The Winning team "Post and Column"

Over two thousand pounds, was raised by Matlock Rotary Club for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association – Forces Help Charity (SSAFA - Forces Help)  at their Rotary Annual Golf day held on Wednesday 10^th June 2009.

Eighty golfers, from twenty teams, took part in this Charity Golf event, held for the eleventh time at Matlock Golf Club.

The competition was a Stableford am-am in teams of four, with the two best scores at each hole counting towards the result.

The winning team were ‘Post and Column’ represented by Jack Cope, John Slater, Liam Slater and Nigel Furniss who completed their round in an absolute downpour with an aggregate score of 85, and were presented with the David Cooper Trophy and their First Prizes.

Runners up were ‘Twigg Steelers’ represented by Ian Kidd, Mick Hutchinson, Andy Kernaghan and Norman Wilson with an aggregate score of 83.

Third were ‘Twigg Hookers’ represented by Peter Worthy, Barry Shaw, Bob Crossley and Stuart Doxey with 81, closely followed by Abbeydale Wanderers with 80, represented by Peter Littlewood, David Mather, Malcolm Jenkins and Robert Ackroyd.

Individual prizes were won by Steve Butt, Carl Harris, Robert Ackroyd, Tom Bullimore, Rob Inglis and Darren Garvey.

During the evening a cheque for £2000 was presented to Major Charles Stephenson of SSAFA – Forces Help by Andrew Hodkin, President of the Rotary Club of Matlock

Matlock Rotary would like to thank the sponsors, individuals, those who took part, firms and rotary clubs, and particularly Matlock Golf Club for the use of the splendid course, all of whom supported this very successful event which made this splendid donation to ‘SSAFA – Forces Help’ possible.

Ladies teams were also taking part.  Not this years winners but watch this space !!
